Participating in aerobic exercise is essential for good health and well being. Learn how it can help to greatly increase your hearth health and help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Participating in aerobic exercise is essential for good health and well being. Elevating your heart rate and working up a sweat for half an hour at least three times a week can greatly increase your hearth health and help reduce the risk of heart disease. There are so many enjoyable ways to get a good aerobic workout that there is really no excuse for being a couch potato. Here we discuss some of the classic ways of getting aerobic exercise along with a few fun alternatives.

Taking an aerobics class or following aerobics exercise videos are sure ways to get a complete aerobics workout; however, these can be time consuming, especially when you factor in travel time to and from a gym. Jogging around your neighborhood is also an excellent alternative. The downside to both of these is that they may be hard on the knees. If you have knee problems, opt for low impact aerobics or power walking to increase your heart rate and work up a sweat.

Many people think of swimming and cycling as aerobic exercise, and they can be; however, you have to really put a lot of effort into these activities to get true aerobic benefits. A few leisurely laps or a spin around the block on your bike simply won’t do it. Nonetheless, both swimming and cycling for pleasure are excellent exercise for flexibility, relaxation and sheer enjoyment, and you should definitely partake of these activities as often as you wish.

Yoga is another form of exercise that can be relaxing and helpful for flexibility. The difference, just as with swimming and cycling, is in the intensity of your practice. If you just want to focus at the start of the day or wind down at the end of the day, try a little gentle Hatha Yoga. If you want a complete aerobic workout, take up Power Yoga or Bikram Yoga. You will definitely feel a tremendous energy boost and gain a lot of cardiovascular benefits.

Other unusual and enjoyable forms of aerobic exercise include dance classes, martial arts instruction and participation in sports. All of these activities can provide a great work out and have a social component that is also very beneficial for the heart, both literally and figuratively.

It’s easy to see that opportunities for improving your cardiovascular health with aerobic exercise are abundant and varied, so there’s absolutely no reason to delay your pursuit of cardiovascular and overall fitness. In addition to ample exercise, taking high quality cardiovascular supplements will also help you enjoy the benefits of a healthy, happy heart.
