Tips When Shopping For Natural Beauty Products

Tips when Shopping for Natural Beauty Products

Are you interested in natural personal care items. Here is some help while searching for natural, sustainable personal care products.

If you do not care for yourself, then who will? Your body works tirelessly to serve you day in and out, and it is only fitting (and necessary!) that you honor your body with personal care. There are many ways to care for your body, through meditation, taking vacations, body massage, and via spiritual experiences. The way you care is not as important, just the very act of doing it is! For some, the concept of personal care is foreign and daunting. How can you care for yourself if you have no idea what that looks like? Here are some ideas.

  • Improving the ambiance of your living space with candles or salt lamps
  • Getting a salt scrub or a mud bath (both which are excellent for your skin)
  • Cleansing with a colon detox or nasal rinsing (try using a neti pot)
  • For thousands of years, women have been using natural products to care for their skin, hair and beauty. It is only recently that we have changed from using natural ingredients to products made from chemical ingredients. The skin is the largest organ in the body. It is the primary shield that covers and protects us from disease and the harsh outside world. Furthermore, much of what goes on our skin gets absorbed into our bodies, and for this reason, it is beneficial that whatever we put on our skin should be pure, natural and organic, as well as safe and effective.

    Why Natural?
With time, we are finding out the side effects of living in a toxic environment. From hormonal imbalance to increased disease and mental health disorders, every aspect of our lives is being affected by the toxic load of chemicals we are exposed to every day.

For the truly health conscious or those suffering from chemical sensitivities, natural beauty products are the healthy alternative. Organic and natural products are widely available, from shampoos, skin care, hair care, baby products, shave gels, soap and lotion. However, there is very little regulation on the term “natural”. How do you know that you are getting what you paid for? The tip is to read, read, read. Knowledge is power. Read labels, read websites that list ingredients, or shop for USDA certified organic products.

A good rule of thumb to use is if you don’t know what the ingredient is, then question why are you putting it on your skin or hair. Our skin is our most important defense, and even though it is a good barrier, a lot of chemicals can still get through. So remember that next time you smear a lotion or cream on your skin – what goes on the outside may end up on the inside.

Choose from companies that have sustainable production practices. This is not only for our health, for the health of our children. For the health conscious person, it can be daunting to try and find personal care products that don’t have a whole host of synthetic chemicals. Or, you may be seeking to use sustainably produced, responsibly sourced products, but have no idea how to know who buys what where. For the seeker, take heart as these products are now available!
