Benefits Of Wheatgrass

Benefits of Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is a health food produced from the young grass of a wheat plant. It offers numerous benefits, including weight loss, detoxification and improved digestion.

The history of wheatgrass is long. In fact, it was used more than 5,000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians. They considered it sacred because of the positive effects on the Egyptians’ vitality and health. Wheatgrass did not gain popularity in the Western world until the 1930s when Charles Schnabel conducted experiments on this health food. By 1940, Schnabel’s powdered wheatgrass was offered in drug stores throughout the US and Canada.

Ann Wigmore, the founder of Hippocrates Health Institute, taught that wheatgrass should be part of a raw food diet. She believed that wheatgrass rid toxins from the body and provided powerful nutrients. Additionally, Wigmore stated that wheatgrass can help those suffering from a serious illness or disease.

Wheatgrass is a health food produced from the young grass of a wheat plant. It is either sold as a powder concentrate or a juice. Wheatgrass contains a variety of healthy substances, including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and chlorophyll. Wheatgrass is a wonderful source of dietary fiber and contains vitamins A, C, E, B6, K, thiamin, niacin and riboflavin. The minerals, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and potassium are also found in wheatgrass. Finally, wheatgrass juice contains approximately 860 milligrams of protein in each 1-ounce serving.

Digestive Health

The Israel Institute of Technology conducted a study on the effectiveness of wheatgrass juice on ulcerative colitis. The study used 23 patients who were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. The patients were divided into two distinct groups- half of the group received 3 ounces of wheatgrass juice and the other half received a placebo for one month.

At the conclusion of the study, it was determined that wheatgrass juice can help significantly reduce the symptoms of ulcerative colitis and can reduce the severity of rectal bleeding. Additionally, none of the participants experienced any serious side effects during the study. The antioxidant properties of wheatgrass juice can help heal the digestive tract in those suffering from digestive disorders.

Detoxification

Wheatgrass is often used as a part of a detoxification program. Whether you use powdered wheatgrass, liquid wheatgrass or wheatgrass supplements, the effects are the same. Wheatgrass helps pull toxins and heavy metals out of the body. The antioxidants found in wheatgrass nourish the liver, gallbladder and pancreas. The organs work in conjunction with one another to purify the blood and rid the body of impurities.

If you will be using wheatgrass powder or juice, mix it with other fruits and vegetables to create a delicious detox drink. Or, you can just drink a one ounce shot of wheatgrass juice before each meal. If you would rather use a wheatgrass supplement, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Supplements are available in capsules, tablets, liquid extracts and tinctures.Benefits of Wheatgrass

Immunity

Wheatgrass is often considered the most complete nutrient-dense food on the planet. It boosts your energy and maximizes your overall health and immunity. It contains chlorophyll which is almost identical to your haemoglobin. Chlorophyll contains antibacterial properties and stops the development and growth of unfriendly bacteria in the digestive tract.

Finally, wheatgrass contains 17 different amino acids and almost every known mineral. To ensure that you receive the maximum benefits of these vitamins and minerals to enhance your immunity, drink it on an empty stomach. Also, wait at least 30 minutes after consuming wheatgrass to ensure that your body absorbs the maximum amount of nutrients.

Skin Issues

Did you know that wheatgrass can help with a variety of skin disorders, including psoriasis and eczema? Wheatgrass can be applied topically to help soothe and cleanse irritated skin. Or, you can add wheatgrass powder or juice to a warm bath to soothe irritated skin. Finally, wheatgrass can be consumed to heal your skin from the inside out.

Weight Loss

Wheatgrass can help you reduce your food cravings and lose weight. Food cravings are often caused by vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Because wheatgrass is packed full of key nutrients, it can help control your cravings and thus help you avoid fatty and sugary snacks. When you are able to control your cravings, weight loss will naturally occur. Finally, wheatgrass helps to nourish your thyroid gland. The hormones produced by the thyroid helps control and maintain metabolism.

As you can see, wheatgrass offers numerous benefits, including weight loss, detoxification and improved digestion. Use this nutrient dense whole food to improve your digestion, improve your skin and provide the body with key vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Comments

  • Whenever I have tried to ingest wheatgrass in ANY form, I get stomach discomfort and diarrhea. Also, it was my understanding that human stomachs are not equipped to digest grasses. I would be interested to hear your reply. Many thanks Barbara 908-803-1126
