Managing Chronic Pain

Managing Fibromyalgia Pain

Chronic Pain is a medical condition that causes anxiety, depression, and fatigue. Combining a healthy diet, gentle exercise, and other natural remedies  are key to relieving its symptoms.

Fibromyalgia is a medical condition that causes widespread pain, sleep problems, memory issues, fatigue, and mood swings. It is believed that fibromyalgia amplifies the way your spinal cord and brain process pain signals. Although the exact cause of fibromyalgia remains unknown, symptoms often develop after an illness, a period of intense psychological stress, an injury, or a physical trauma.

The pain associated with fibromyalgia can be mild or it can be so severe that it interferes with the sufferer’s daily activities. Thankfully, there are many treatment options that can help relieve fibromyalgia pain. Let’s look at how you can manage the pain and get back to living life.

1. Supplements – Fibromyalgia can cause a plethora of symptoms; therefore, you need your body and mind in the best condition possible. One of the best ways to do this is to take vitamin and mineral supplements designed to promote optimal health. Neuroscience vitamins utilize targeted formulas designed to correct imbalances and support the body.

2. Warm, moist heat – Taking a hot bath may help to relieve your pain. For best results, get the water as hot as possible and soak for at least 30 minutes. The warm, moist heat will help relieve tension, relax stiff muscles, and reduce your fibromyalgia pain.

3. Exercise – When you are hurting, the last thing you want to do is physical activity. Exercise helps to improve blood flow to your muscles, promote the production and release of endorphins, and decrease pain signals naturally. Exercise has also been shown to improve sleep, reduce depression, and improve energy levels naturally.

4. Reduce sugar consumption – Excess sugar consumption promotes systemic inflammation. Eating a bunch of sweets can increase your pain levels due to activating the inflammatory response of the immune system. When you want a sweet treat, reach for fruits as they provide you with a naturally sweet treat without causing an inflammatory reaction in the body. If you need to use sugar, opt for sugar in the raw rather than processed white sugar.

5. Turmeric – Turmeric is a spice often found in Indian foods. This bright yellow spice has anti-inflammatory properties that can decrease your pain. The curcumin found in turmeric targets inflammatory cells and block enzymes that cause inflammation. When taking a turmeric or curcumin supplement, make sure that it contains piperine (black pepper extract), which helps increase the bioavailability of turmeric.

6. Sleep – Your body needs seven to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep each night to function properly. During sleep, your body makes repairs to damaged tissues, creates hormones that your body needs, and a plethora of other mechanisms. Unfortunately, many people suffering from fibromyalgia find it difficult to get a full night’s sleep during a flare. During a flare, you may need to use extra pillows, change sleeping positions, or sleep in a different bed to get a full night’s sleep.

7. Journal – Journaling is one of the best ways to help you find out what is triggering your flares. Write down the foods that you eat, how much water you drink, the activities you do, the amount of sleep you get, etc. Over time, you may begin to notice a pattern. Once you see a pattern, you may be able to reduce the number of flares that you experience or the severity of your flares. It is important to note that triggers can change with time; therefore, it is essential that you keep up with your journaling.

8. Medical care – A caring staff of professionals can make the difference between simply surviving and living your life to the fullest. Natural pain management is designed to improve your health, reduce your pain levels, and minimize the myriad of symptoms associated with fibromyalgia using proven techniques, such as diet, exercise, stress management, and nutritional supplements.

9. Stress relief techniques – Living with fibromyalgia can extremely stressful. Not only do you have to deal with the seemingly unrelenting pain, but you also will be dealing with fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Learning how to relieve your stress may help ease your fibromyalgia symptoms. Fibromyalgia sufferers often find that guided imagery, mindful meditation, biofeedback, and cognitive behavioral therapy can help relieve pain.

10. Vitamin D – Individuals suffering from fibromyalgia often have low vitamin D levels, which could worsen their pain. If you suffer from fibromyalgia, ask your doctor to order a blood test to check your vitamin D levels. If your levels are low, your doctor may prescribe a vitamin D3 supplement. You can also increase your vitamin D levels naturally by sitting out in the sun for around 15 minutes without sunscreen.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic medical condition that causes pain, anxiety, depression, and fatigue. During a flare, your skin can become so sensitive that wearing clothing or the gentlest touch is excruciating. There are many natural ways to give you relief from your fibromyalgia pain. Talk with your doctor and see which treatments are right for you. Using some of the methods discussed above can help you live an active and healthy life with fibromyalgia.
